The work of achieving permanence for children is multi faceted and operates in a framework of law, regulation and guidance designed to ensure the wellbeing of children from infancy to adulthood. Achieving this goal requires an understanding of child development and the many factors that contribute to children’s security and wellbeing in the context of family and community life. It also requires an understanding of the various risk factors inherent in planning and decision making and how these can be identified and managed in the best interests of the child. This curriculum guide sets out the curriculum content to support social workers CPD and learning requirements.
This guide is intended for use by higher education institutions, independent sector training organisations and in-house local authority training. This CPD training framework should be used with reference to the curriculum guide for continuing professional development (CPD) on pre-proceedings and court-related skills in cases concerning the care and protection of children.
